TMNT Treatures - Post 2: Tyranno Shredder Wax Sculpt

Sorry it has been a few days since I've posted. I'm on vacation, and so I am not doing anything very constructive. Anyway, Ithought I would come back strong with another TMNT treasure. While Not all of these posts will be wax sculptures, this happens to be another one. This time it's the sculpt for Tyranno Shredder. As the name suggests, he is a mash up of Shredder and a T-Rex. He was part of a line in which the turtles and shredder with each mashed up with a different dinosaur. This is definately one of my favorite Shredder figures ever made:

TMNT Treasures: Post 1 - Hot Spot Wax Sculpt

Hey gang,
So I decided to do a recurring feature on my blog. TMNT Treasures are going to be posts showcasing some of the more rare, interesting, or just plain favorite pieces in my personal collection. All of these things are going to be actually taken from my collection. No photos are borrowed from anyone else. So without further adieu. This is the original wax sculpture for the Hot Spot Action figure. He is made 100% out of jeweler's grade wax (which is why he lives in a converted wine fridge):

Diamonds are a turtles Best friend?

So I found THIS on ebay starting at a cool 2 grand. Over four carats in diamonds:

4.25CT TW IN GENUINE DIAMONDS. Blue Canary & White Diamonds on a 10KT Gold setting. Ninja is 2 1/4" long x 2 1/4" wide. Large bale so good for a heavy chain. Blue diamond arms & legs with white gold body. Canary diamonds on the head. Retail Price $5900.Delivered ina black velvet box. #194-1271 c2329

I acutally sent this on to Mirage incase they want to do something about it. It is really easy to shut down an ebay auction when you are the owner of the intellectual property.

The Catwoman From Channel 6

Hey all,
My newest custom is from the episode "The Catwoman From Channel 6" where April is turned into a cat mutant after getting zapped in one of Shredder's machines. Here is my take on that character.

Tips On Standing Action Figures

This subject has come up a few times on the Technodrome (In my links on the right) So I thought I would post on the topic here...The Suject of Making loose figures stand.

Here are some tips from TMNTMan:
1) Make sure you have decent shelves. If the shelf isn't steady than the chances of figures toppling over is going to greatly increase.

But if that doesn't work

2) Fun Tack or museum wax. You can buy these items either online or in many hobby stores. A small dab under the feet will hold your figures in place and can be cleaned off later. Just be careful as some types may discolor the plastic over time

3) Stands/physical support If all else fails, and with some figures it will, you will need extra support. There are companies that make stands that plug into the holes in the feet of an action figure (if there are holes) The down side is they can be expensive and take up extra space. But there are alternatives. I found some small, powerful magnets that are just the right size for the peg holes in Marvel Legends figures. So now as long as I have a metal surface to put them on, they never fall over.

Here are some tips from Me!

1) Play with different positions of arms. Arm orientation can make all the difference in the world when it comes to balance.

2) The wider the stance, the better. When in doubt, spread their legs apart further. The lower the center of gravity for the figure, the better. Sure it might look a little odd, but if you have alot of figures clustered together, you wont notice their legs.

3) Use the arms of figures in the rear to support unstable figures in the front. Stick out the arm of a stable figure and prop a figure up against his fist. You'll never be able to tell from the front.

Thus Ends Your Lesson On Standing Action Figures!

Hey gang...So my favorite pose ever in any turtles comic is Raph on the rooftop on page 19 in volume 1 issue 1. Unfortunately the NECA raph isnt nearly as flexible as he would need to be to strike this pose...UNTIL NOW!

Stuff I did:
1. Shaved off the top of each foot and the back of each leg part so the legs would fold accordingly.
2. Used Sculpy to resculpt the top of his feet.
3. Repainted most of the legs
4. Trimmed the bottom of the front shell to allow him to bend deeper.
5. Cut the belt away from the shell so the sais could go in the proper place.
6. Shaved the top of the Shell down in the back so he could lift his head to the proper height.
7. Changed the direction of his mask tails.

The Upside: AWESOME NINJA POSE!
The Downside: He is now a statue rather than an action figure....Destined to stay in his squat of death FOREVER!

Phantom :-(

As some of you already know, I had to put my dog Phantom down on April 10th due to cancer. That weekend I got his likeness tattooed on my arm. I just wanted to share some photos of the process. Enojy them, and think about the good times we had with my best friend Phantom.

New Collection Photos!

So I built out another chelf for the turtles so I could pull some of them off of my kitchen counter (so I could, you know...USE the kitchen AS a kitchen?) Anyways, I took some pics! Enjoy!

My First Post And My New Niece!

Hello Interwebs!

This is my new blog! www.theturtlevan.com!

As you might have figured out already (especially if you know me), this blog is going to be mostly about the ninja turtles, and the ninja turtles as they pertain to my life! So sit back, and enjoy the read! (I'm going to try to be fairly regular with this one :-))

First off! I'd like to share some great personal news. I have a new niece! Katelyn Margret. She is pretty much the best thing ever! I don't have pics readily available, but I will tomorrow most likely. In the meantime well wishes for her please :-)
